Research:
As per the Cabinet Memorandum for the establishment of the Centre, a major
function of the Centre is conducting Research into Climate Change. This function
has further be sub divided as follows:
- To encourage scientists to carry out research into Climate Change ad
related issues such as impacts, mitigation and adaptation measures.
- To provide data available in the Department of Meteorology to Scientists
to carry out research on Climate Change and related issues.
At present nine (9) research projects conducted through the Centre for Climate
Change Studies have been concluded successfully. Financial assistance for seven
of these projects have been provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF)
of Sri Lanka through the Centre for Climate Change Studies. A one-day workshop
was held on Sunday, 15th September 2002 at the Auditorium of the Department
of Meteorology to present/discuss the findings of these reseearch studies.
